Castello d'Empuries Carnival

The historic town of Castello d'Empuries will be holding its annual Festival on the 8, 9 & 10th of February 2008. The Carnival which is held every year, promises to give the town its traditional fun and games.

The Basilica in Castello d'Empuries is one of the highlights of a visit to Castello.
Building of the Basilica started around the 14th Century, and is could be siad to be one of the finest Gothic Churches in the area. In side the church you will find among other fantastic pieces, a Baroque Organ from the 18th Century. In the town of Castello you will also find amazing features that give you the feel you have travelled back in time. If your in the area around Castello d'Empuries, you have to spend the day in the town and take in the delights and architecture from the 9th century.

Empuriabrava - Largest inland marina in Europe.

If your visiting Castello d Empuries, then you have to take a trip to the seaside town of Empuriabrava. Located 2 minutes drive from Castello, Empuriabrava is a must for the Boat or Fishing fanatic. The Marina located in the heart of the town has many resturants and cafe/bars, sitting in the beautiful setting, surrounded by hundreds of boats and the canals is a wonderful way to pass an afternoon. Empuriabrava is currently celebrating its 40th year and has many big festivals to celebrate this. If you looking for a perfect holiday destination of place to buy a second home, then Empuriabrava is a must. The medievel town of castello d'Empuries dates back to the 9th century.
The landmark of the small town is the parish church Santa Maria (now upgraded to a basilica) which is often called the “cathedral of the Empordà” because of its size and gothic influence architecture. Every year the town host the “Terra de Trobadors” and the whole town turns back the clock to the 9th century, with an old market in the square, medievel costumes, live music and many recreations of the old traditions.
This happens every september and is definatly worth a visit.
